Škver is a project from our dear friend Dunja Janković that we gladly support!
The intention is for the workshop/festival to take place every year, chronically, like a sore throat, from year to year, and in that way to uplift the cultural-art spirit on the island, which has been in an acute depression lately.
The contact between artists and workers, atelier and shipyard, art and industry makes us happy and reminds us of art and cultural actions that take place all around the world, bringing art out of the gallery and museum and into the factory halls, industrial spaces, the streets, squares, and the rest of the public spaces. In keeping with art movements around the world and also out of sheer fun, we will place 11 artists in a temporary work space, give them buckets of paint and brushes, cameras, projectors and set them loose so their hands can do what they want to do.
When art gets out of the over-lit, stiff, and pompous galleries and penetrates real spaces, artwork overcomes imposed criteria and becomes what it really is: a game! Play, fun, sugar for the eyes, medicine for the soul! Most importantly, it communicates with everyone and excludes no one. This time it is dedicated to the shipyard, one of the oldest industries on the island of Lošinj and to it’s deserving workers.
